I was wrong.

I’ve always thought that the idea that everyone goes out looking for a new job in January was an industry myth – I was wrong.

The idea that everyone comes back from their break and decides to embrace the ‘new year, new me’ mentality is something I have always been skeptical of.

In the same way everyone always comments that December is a quiet month for jobseekers, I’ve always found the inverse has been true.

It is a month of 3 weeks. Everyone wants things ready and closed to head into the new year and there is less time to try and accomplish the same amount of work - things always tend to go down to the wire.

However, on January I couldn’t have been more wrong.

The 3rd of January has been the biggest day in terms of inbound activity for us as at MCG Talent the last two years running.

Over the period of time in the first week of January 2023, we saw a 4-5x spike in Job Applications vs our Rest of Year Average.

By the time clients are back and settled and turn their attention back to hiring we probably don’t notice the impact until early February.

If you are looking to make a move next year, getting a head start on things seems like a logical play.

Here’s three ways you can use what is left of 2023, to set up your 2024.
