I have a really weird way of knowing how busy Dubai is at any given time (it’s not how busy the traffic is).
Just south of the Mall of Emirates on Sheik Zayed Road, there’s a hotel that lists its daily room rates on a screen on the outside.
I drive past it every day on the way home from the office.
During the summer months, I’ve seen it fall to as little as 100 DHS per night – a far cry from the 600 DHS rates during peak-events season.
That it’s recently been on the rise from its summer lows is no surprise.
The summer months usually herald an exodus as the temperature rises and families escape the heat and more companies offer flexible working options.
You’d be hard-pressed to find tourists brave enough to weather time outside in peak July and most of the beach clubs and outdoor restaurants close.
While July was the on-calendar start date for H2 it will be in September, as schools return, that things will return to normal for everyone in Dubai.
We also anticipate hiring to pick up post-Summer as companies align on open roles and their priorities through to year-end.
Things didn’t grind to a complete halt over the past few months - July was actually one of our busiest months of the year so far – but they did move slower and more sporadically than usual.
We are ready for a busy period through the rest of Q3 and into Q4.
If you’re looking for a new role, here’s the three things I’d do to stand out during this busy period.
