Quick Thoughts - A Year in Hong Kong
Time flies...
It’s been one year since I moved to Hong Kong from the UAE.
Looking back, it was a pretty big gamble based on gut, intuition and wanting to see a bit more of the world.
I absolutely loved my time in the Middle East and still keep strong ties back to the region - not least our MENA business.
Deep down I knew that I'd grown too comfortable in Dubai and it was a bit too early to settle for that life.
On arrival at HK Airport! 🇭🇰
I came to miss the spontaneity that comes from living in a walkable city where things are a little less polished.
The energy of HK - which I was lucky to visit through work - felt like a logical antidote.
The energy of the UAE very much comes from the gathering of minds, ideas and the ambition of the country. That’s fantastic but I also found it quite isolating at times.
It’s not as physically obvious or alive in the same way a walk through Causeway Bay or TST in Hong Kong is.
I'm very glad the move paid off as I absolutely love it here and am hopeful for many more years to come.
People often ask which location do you prefer and I always feel like that’s a loaded question.
Different places can suit you better at different stages of your life.
I wouldn’t have had the confidence to move to Hong Kong if I hadn’t had the experience of living in the UAE first.
Liking and living one doesn’t have to come at the expense of your appreciation for the other.
They’re two fantastic places and I feel privileged that I have been able to call both home and still get to work across both 😎
