Here's something the market rewards
I recently met with a senior leader with 30+ years of experience.
They had worked with some of the biggest names in industry, had a stacked history and had spoken in front of thousands delivering keynote speeches.
The catch? They couldn't get a response.
When we were talking it was obvious that they had so much more to offer - but their profile was too diverse and wide to be understood from a CV alone.
I told them to put together a portfolio. A slide document that ran through everything they'd done. Examples. Pictures. Results.
A little bit outside the box - but as soon as they finished it, they were positioned in a completely different light.
Everything they'd done had social proof behind it. The slides told a compelling narrative as opposed to block text on a CV.

It was hard to ignore. How often do you get a slide deck land in your inbox? As soon as you'd checked the second slide you were hooked onto the next.
They had a new role within 2 months after previously enduring an 8 month hiatus.
I'm not saying that owed fully to the presentation - but it opened doors that were previously closed.
Here's the thing the market rewards without exception. People going above and beyond.
Not doing too much. Doing it differently.
It made me think about something else I've noticed.
Whenever I go to events or networking I'm always struck by the same voices in my head. It's going to be a waste of time. I can't be bothered.
Then you go. You have conversations. And every now and then you meet someone that's absolutely phenomenal.
You'd never have known it from their CV. You'd never have known it from their LinkedIn. You only discover it through a conversation that forces you beneath the surface level.
The portfolio worked because it went deeper.
The networking works because it goes deeper.
Every competitive advantage I've seen in this market comes back to the same thing.
Find a way to show depth that a CV can't capture. The people who do that are the ones who get hired.
