Quick Thoughts - Global Values

In the past 12 months I've recruited across the UAE, Australia, KSA, China, Japan, Singapore, Qatar, Malaysia, India and Hong Kong.

The cultural differences are massive. Work styles, communication, business etiquette - even the apps you used to communicate. All different.

How you speak to a profile in Guangzhou, China is very different from how you interact with a profile relocating from New York to Dubai.

But here's what surprised me.

The human part? It’s almost identical everywhere.

Here’s three examples that breakdown exactly what I mean:

Everyone wants to be looked after.

In Hong Kong, candidates ask us about work-life balance just like they do in Riyadh. They want to know their employer cares about them as people.

Everyone wants transparency.

A CTO in Dubai and a Marketing Lead in Singapore both hate surprises. They want clear salary ranges, honest job scopes, real interview timelines. No games.

Everyone wants to feel valued.

When I place someone in Australia, they light up when a company shows genuine interest in their career growth. Same reaction I see in Abu Dhabi.

People know when you're just filling a seat versus actually investing in them.

I used to think I needed completely different approaches for each market.

And yes, the HOW is different. The relationship building, the pace, the communication style etc.

But the WHY? Universal.

People everywhere want respect, clarity, and to feel like they matter.

Recruitment (and business/life!) works when you remember that.

In the meantime, here’s our live roles for the week.
