Don't make this mistake with your CV

If you're applying to roles at the moment this one's for you.

Dubai at sunrise

In the past week we've had the same situation play out twice with two different companies we are working with.

We have submitted a candidate to a position only to be told they've already been shared by another supplier.

That's normal and can happen sometimes. People apply to lots of roles or might give an agency free reign to submit them to roles that match their experience.

The catch in these instances was that the candidates had never spoken to anyone else on the opportunity and backed this up in writing.

I did my due diligence and went back to the client with written confirmation from the candidates.

On both occasions we kept the right to represent the individuals but how unprofessional is that?

It’s a real-time insight into what happens here in a hugely crowded and hyper-competitive market.

If I had to take a guess on what happened I would assume that another agency had their CV on profile from a previous application and decided to fling them out and test the waters.

I didn't ask RE the other agencies but from their side, it’s either:

 Laziness.

Our job is literally to call people, if you can't be bothered to do that you shouldn't be in the industry.

 Desperation.

Fire anything out, see what sticks. It's easy to play backwards and tell a candidate a company might be interested in them and then wait a few hours and tell them they have an interview.

Think of the potential implications from a candidate's side to having their CV shared without their knowledge or consent.

→ What if it's shared to a previous employer or somewhere where they might have connections to their current workplace?

→ How do you know the expectations align if you've never spoken to them?

So what does this mean for you?
