This market is tough. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

This week I trimmed down on some of our AI subscriptions after a massive realisation.

I’d outsourced thinking.

Some context: AI - in its various forms - has become a huge part of our Tech Stack over the past three months.

We’ve recently onboarded a new CRM plug-in that’s generated 4 leads in week one and I spend an embarrassing amount of time across LLMs.

I can’t remember the last time I sent a longer message without WisprFlow which is basically an extension of me now 🤖

HOWEVER, I had to pull the plug this week on a couple of the bigger subscriptions.

I’m constantly being pitched by people on LinkedIn with the latest AI Tech in the Recruitment space.

I agreed to a demo of a product and about 5 minutes in it felt like that moment when the lights come on at the end of a night out. I felt dirty and I wanted to go home.

The tool solved a miniscule issue I have each week relating to data entry. The time I was taking on the demo exceeded the time I spend on the issue each week.

Is it a problem for me? Yeah, sort of but I’d made it a bigger issue than it was.

Am I in a position where I can outsource it to AI? Yes.

Should I? No.

Sorry SDR of X company, it wasn’t you, it was me.

There’s no guardrails and nobody has exactly produced a recommended dosage of AI to play with. You keep going and going until the digital approval is there.

It's an easy rabbit hole to fall down and a hard one to scale back.

Touching grass in Hong Kong

I put something out the other week on LinkedIn. After posting I compared it to the original and it was a complete Frankenstein. The first, unedited piece I plugged in was 1000x better.

I’d hacked away, asked for various different angles and opinions and what was left wasn’t me lol. Complete waste of time.

My new benchmark is I’d rather put out something and it be rubbish but that’s on me, than put something out and it’s rubbish because of AI.

Maybe the results will be the same. But at least I have the conviction that it’s my experience driving the outcome than passing that off to the computer.

Takeaways:

↳ Embrace experimentation.

↳ Too much kills originality.

↳ Outsource the menial, not yourself.
